"Tequila -- A Review"

by Don Silvius

I have been asked by our esteemed publisher to provide you with a review of something. I haven’t really listened to any new music, other than a song or two by several artists on what is now called Sirius XM radio. Yes, I am a satellite radio fan and subscriber.

I haven’t watched any new movies that most of you probably haven’t already seen, and I haven’t eaten at any new restaurants that you are likely to visit. So what can I review that might interest readers?

It’s a Saturday night, and wanting to relax after a particularly busy and stressful week at work (final exams week), I thought, “What am I interested enough in to review for this quarter?”

So, with the holidays approaching and New Years parties on the horizon (we celebrate New Years at home) I thought I might influence some holiday activities by reviewing something that I am very familiar with, and some of you may be as well, and something that I have in front of me right now – in a glass – tequila.

Yes, please take this all with a rim of salt – I mean a grain of salt – because it is purely for entertainment purposes and I am not endorsing anyone like Jose Cuervo. Although I must admit that I have had a long acquaintance with good old Jose.

Jose can be a great friend and a lot of fun, but Jose can also be very unforgiving. In the unforgiving department, I can remember drinking tall margaritas while playing cards and after an hour or two and a margarita or four (or maybe five), standing up to take a restroom break and finding that there were instantly at least two or three or four of everything in the room! That was a night for Jose to be VERY unforgiving, plus at least the next day as well!

I can also remember a night with multiple margarita encounters and a 45-minute ride (as a passenger) and talking non-stop for the entire 45 minutes! I can talk a lot, but Jose did a lot of the talking for me that night!

Then there was this other time, on a date, when Jose was mainly responsible for - wait, I better not tell that story!

I really like the shot glasses and T-shirts that say “One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor” – I don’t own one, but I can relate. I also like Margaritaville and Jimmy Buffet. I do own a Margaritaville T-shirt, and I can relate to that as well – especially during the summer at the beach. It is five o’clock somewhere! I do have stories to tell about the worm in the bottom of the bottle, but that isn’t Jose Cuervo’s tequila and it isn’t as good.

So that isn’t really a review, but it is … well, I don’t know what it is, but I hope it was entertaining. When you celebrate the holidays, do so in moderation, but if you have tequila, have a shot for me – and I’ll have one for you.

Happy holidays – and after that, happy winter, and happy spring – just be happy!
